DOES GOD SPEAK TO US

THROUGH OUR DREAMS?
The other night a couple of friends, Jim and Freddie, came over for a visit.  About a month  had passed since they were last at my house and it felt good to see them again.
At one point in the evening Jim told me about a disturbing dream he had the night before.  It was so real and unnerving to him, that now a full day later, he was still troubled by it.
"What did you dream?", I asked him-
What he described more than explained why he remained so affected-
The sky was blackened beyond black-
Huge insect like flying machines hovered overhead creating a deafening whirlwind like sound-
Missiles and explosions of great magnitude completely filled the skies, engulfing the entire Earth in fiery death and destruction.
What Jim had seen in his dream, sounds frighteningly like that which is written in the ninth chapter of the Book of Revelations, when Satan, "the star that falls from Heaven", unlocks the bottomless pit, unleashing a hellish war on the world.
Compare Jim's dream to this scripture:
"He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit; and from the shaft rose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft. Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth; they were told not to harm the grass of the earth...but only those of mankind that have not the seal of God upon their foreheads... In appearance the locusts were like horses arrayed for battle...on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces, their hair like women's hair, their teeth like lions' teeth, they had scales like iron breastplates, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle."  Rev 9:2-9
This vision described by John in the 1st Century AD, could easily depict a modern day aerial attack by high tech assault helicopters from the point of view of someone who had never seen (nor could have imagined) anything like that.
Remember, John didn't understand what he had seen-
He merely wrote down what God had shown him. (Rev 1:11)
Notice that when describing these things, John always compares them to something he can relate to, saying: "In appearance they were LIKE horses arrayed for battle" or "they have tails LIKE scorpions", or "on their heads were WHAT LOOKED LIKE crowns of gold", showing that what he is describing is not what he is actually seeing, but is "like" what he is seeing, as best he can describe it.
It would not be too difficult to imagine that modern day Apache attack helicopters, with their scorpion like appearance, might have been perceived by the apostle John in 96 AD, as huge, armored (as horses arrayed in battle) flying insects, that like scorpions, sting (shoot missiles) with their tails, as these modern day assault aircraft in fact do.
In the vision, the pilots of these helicopters, dressed in their helmets and ultra modern flight gear, would have been plainly visible to John through the glass windshield, accurately rendering his description of them as having the faces of men.
The sleek aerodynamic curvature of a flight helmet tightly surrounding the pilot's face, may well have appeared to him as the long swept back hair of a woman-
While the continuous glare of countless explosions gleaming off of the chopper's glass dome, could easily have been interpreted by John, as a crown of gold-
And how else would someone from the 1st Century AD, who had never seen or heard the tumultuous sound of a helicopter, describe the NOISE of it's wings (rotary blades), than as the "tumultuous noise of many chariots and horses rushing to battle".
What the Apostle John and my friend Jim had seen, was a glimpse of a time in the not so distant future, when Great Tribulation will be upon all the world.
A time when famine, pestilence and death will come to all but those "WHO HAVE THE SEAL OF GOD UPON THEIR FOREHEADS", for God has promised that they who believe in his Savior and keep His Commandments, will be protected in this way.
It is clear that these visions were given to John to be written down as a warning to us of these latter days, as to what is soon coming upon the world.
For as Jesus Himself warned this generation-
"Watch therefore for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming."  Matthew 24:42
"Do you think that God speaks to us through our dreams?", Jim asked.
How ironic, I thought to myself.
For years Jim and Freddie have listened to me speak of how the Truths of God had been corrupted by the traditions of men-
Of how there would be a Great Falling away of God's True Church before Christ's Second Coming-
And of how the nations in Europe would unite into one new Superpower.
In the past 11 years that we have been friends, they have witnessed many of the things I had told them come to pass, no matter how far-fetched or unlikely they may have seemed at the time it was said.
Jim and Freddie say that they believe the Biblical truths I have taught them through the years and know that they should be following the True Christian ways that God is calling them to-
        But they still do not.
According to Jim and Freddie, there is just no way they can fit God's calling into their present lives:
"My wife won't stop celebrating Christmas"
"I can't keep the Sabbath, I work on Saturdays"
"Friday night is when I party with my friends"
"I can't ask for Passover off at my job, they'll laugh"
"Is believing in the Easter Bunny that bad a thing"
"My parents would disown me if I changed my religion"
These are just a few of the reasons I have heard them and others offer through the years, as to why they can't do the things that Christ requires of those who believe in him.
You see - It's not always easy or convenient to be a True Christian, especially in a world where God's ways are so misunderstood and frowned down upon.
But this dream had deeply affected Jim, seemingly even more than all the things I had ever told him - or maybe - hopefully-
Because of all I had told him.
For now God Himself was showing Jim the horrifying and shocking reality he will face, if he continues to ignore his calling.
Keeping the letter of God's Word, His Commandments, His Sabbaths, and His Holy Days of Worship, is what puts the seal of God on His people's foreheads.  These things are your sign to Him that you are one of His, they are in God's own words - banners  of identity to Him. (Ex 31:12-17)
Those who don't do these things, have not the seal of God, and as such, are subject to the horrors Jim saw in his dream, no matter how much they say they believe in Christ.
"You know Jim," I finally answered, "all through the Bible God reveals his truths in dreams;  Jacob [Gen 28:12]; Joseph [Gen 37:5]; Laban [Gen 31:24]; King Nebuchadnezzer of Babylon [Dan 2:1], and the Pharaoh of Egypt in the time of Joseph [Gen 41:1-15]; were all were enlightened by God through dreams.
        The prophet Joel tells us:
'...Your sons and your daughters shall prophecy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.'  [Joel 2:28]
So God does indeed talk to us through our dreams-
And Jim, I think he's talking to you, loud and clear".
